7/31/07 New Update on HOTEL RESERVATIONS for conference room block

November 1-3, 2007

Intercontinental Hotel at the Plaza, Kansas City, MO.

Conference attendees can call our reservation contact directly at the

Intercontinental Hotel to make a reservation. Her name is Pam Henuber.

She is reached at 816-303-2934. Going through the central reservations

doesn't allow for flexibility.

The hotel also will allow the conference rate 3 days before the

conference and 3 days after the conference DEPENDING ON AVAILABILITY of

rooms. This is a popular hotel which is over half filled for our time

frame already, so people should hop on getting their reservations.

If we run out of rooms in our block (meaning the reserved rooms for

which SCS will have to pay if we don't use them all) then Pam will book

them at the conference rate again DEPENDING ON AVAILABILITY of rooms in

the hotel.

Further Hotel and travel notes from Nancy Hughes Lindsley, posted to the SCListserv

"...Keynote presentations will feature information and personalities from

the early days of chart development as well as those pushing our

science into the future.

Our conference hotel is The Intercontinental on the famed Kansas City

Country Club Plaza. The Plaza is an elegant, early (the first) shopping

complex located on the Missouri side of State Line Road about 10 blocks

from BRCo, which is on the Kansas side of State Line.

You history buffs, will recall the infamous Kansas/Missouri pre-Civil

War Border Wars. In fact, some say the Civil War actually began here,

not at Ft. Sumpter. The area is rich in the history of Manifest

Destiny, western (and northern) migration, agriculture, the cattle

trails,...etc.

Please make The Intercontinental your conference nest. You won't be sorry.

For those flying, book your trip to MCI (Mid-Continent International)

which is in MISSOURI, not Kansas. There is easy access from MCI to the

Plaza by taxi, bus, car rental and hotel shuttle. The Plaza is packed

with restaurants, upscale shopping, movies, music, bookstores and

activity. KC is a railway hub for you railroaders and I-70 (the brain

child of that famous Kansan, Dwight D. Eisenhower) lies east/west a

couple of miles to the north of BRCo and The Plaza. It will be easy to

find your way to IPTC #20.

More news as it breaks,"
